Members of the Buccaneer men’s lacrosse, softball and women’s lacrosse teams, along with the Buccaneer Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and several Academy athletic administrators, joined in the celebration of the 100th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s birthday by participating in a touch football game Friday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.
Held in conjunction with the nationwide JFK 100 Centennial Celebration, the game honored President Kennedy’s longstanding message of fitness, inclusion and health. Sponsored by the JFK Library and promoted by the National Football League’s “Play 60” program, flag football contests are being held throughout the country this weekend to honor the Kennedy family’s legacy.
“The Kennedy Family has always been steadfast in their support for the mission of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, and we are honored to take part in this great nationwide celebration,” Buccaneer Director of Athletics Garin Veris said of Friday’s event. “Our training ship bears the Kennedy name and is symbolic of the opportunities that President Kennedy created for the youth of the world that have stood the test of time. His lasting legacy will continue to impact generations to come.”
