MCLA TO DEDICATE NEW FIELD AND
HONOR FORMER MEN'S SOCCER COACH RON SHEWCRAFT

MCLA will play its first home game on its new turf field at the Zavattaro Athletic Complex this Saturday, October 20 when the women's soccer team hosts Framingham State. The official ribbon cutting will be held on Saturday, October 27 as part of Ron Shewcraft Day.

The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts is pleased to invite you to join us as we celebrate the career of retired men's soccer coach, Ron Shewcraft.

As many of you know, Coach Shewcraft has been part of the men's team for the past 30 years, building a strong tradition of men's soccer at the College. With the team now in the capable hands of Coach Adam Hildabrand '99, Coach Shewcraft continues to teach at the College and serve as chairperson of the Physical Education department.

During his long coaching career, Coach Shewcraft's record was 292-184-46, a .604 winning percentage. Entering the fall 2006 season, he ranked 29th in total career coaching victories among all NCAA Division III coaches and 19th among active coaches.

In addition, he ranked 8th in total career victories among coaches from public institutions in Division III. His teams won five MASCAC Championships and in 1978 won the NCAA Division III New England Championship. That same year they advanced to the prestigious NCAA "Final Four."

The festivities to honor Coach Shewcraft will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at the MCLA Zavattaro Athletic Complex on West Shaft Road for refreshments and tailgating before the last men's soccer home game of the season, which will start at 1:00 p.m.

At halftime there will be remarks by MCLA President Mary Grant and Coach Shewcraft. After the game, everyone is invited to the Sammer Dennis Room on the second floor of Murdock Hall on the MCLA campus for a reception and the continued celebration of Coach Shewcraft.
