A Message To The MASCAC From Iraq
Sergeant First Class Delzene Jones, a soldier in the United States military who received one of the care packages sent by the MASCAC's SAAC to soldiers in Iraq, recently wrote a poignant letter of thanks.
A LETTER OF THANKS TO THE MASCAC FROM IRAQ
Nancy Bals and the Student Athletes,
Hello, "All". My name is Sergeant First Class Delzene Jones, I am from Little Rock, Arkansas, "Home of the Razorbacks". I have been in the military for 23 years. I have 2 children and 6 stepchildren. I don't like the word "step" so I just say 8 children. I have altogether 21 grandchildren, and 2 in the oven due now! I made it to Iraq on the 8th of April and I am serving as the Admin, NCO, so when I asked the soldier working with me to pick up the mail, I had no idea he would bring mail back for me.
When he did I was so excited I started to share my goodies with everyone. I thank you all so much for what you have shared, I hardly know what to say. I just pray that God blesses all of you in a special way. You really brought joy to an old lady like me. I am 49 years old and I may turn 50 here. I just had a birthday here on January 27. I would love to meet all of you someday. I will continue to write if that is alright with you all.
Thank you again so very much. It gets hard here sometimes and just the idea of knowing you have someone thinking about you really does mean a whole lot. Keep me in our prayers please that I return home safe and every time Valentine's Day comes I will have something special to remember.
God sent me here for a reason and whatever the reason is, I pray that I fulfill the requirements. God Bless all of you and keep you in his care.
SFC Delzene Jones
