GORHAM, Maine --  Worcester State captured its third straight Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor Track & Field title on Saturday afternoon, as the Lancers posted a 109-point victory over runner-up Westfield State at the 2012 Championships that took place at Southern Maine’s Costello Athletic Fieldhouse Complex as part of the New England Alliance Championships.

Worcester State posted a team score of 242 points on the day to outdistance Westfield State’s total of 133 points, while Bridgewater State (97 points) and Fitchburg State (73 points) rounded out the team competition in third and fourth place, respectively.  The Lancers and Westfield’s Owls have now split the six MASCAC indoor championships, which have been contested since 2007.

Five different individuals captured conference crowns on the day for Worcester State, led by junior Briana Wise (Worcester, Mass.), who took top honors and set new league records in both the 55 meters (7.23) and 200 meters (25.30).  Sophomores Hannah Werneth (North Yarmouth, Maine) and Christy Deininger (North Attleboro, Mass.) also set conference marks in the shot put (12.30 meters/40-04.25) and 55 meter hurdles (8.39), respectively, for the Lancers, who also received individual titles from senior Mara Kralian (North Grafton, Mass.) and freshman Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, Mass.) in the long jump (5.21 meters/17-01.25) and 400 meters (1:00.98), respectively.  Worcester State also set a new MASCAC mark in the 4 x 200 relay with a time of 1:45.55 in the event.

Westfield State freshman Amy Trainque (Fitchburg, Mass.) was also a double winner on the day, as she took top honors in both the mile run (5:22.60) and 3,000 meters (10:15.17), setting a new conference record in the latter event.  Senior Amanda Gricus (Marion, Mass.) broke her own league mark in the weight throw (17.66 meters/57-11.25) for the Owls, who also received individual crowns from senior Amy Wing (North Reading, Mass.) and sophomore Amy Auclair (Marlboro, Mass.) in the high jump (1.58 meters/5-02.25) and pole vault (3.05 meters/10-00.00), respectively.

Bridgewater State seniors Colleen Davis (Mansfield, Mass.), Carrie Robitaille (Ludlow, Mass.) and Melissa Harris (Uxbridge, Mass.) captured individual titles in the 600 meters (conference record 1:38.40), triple jump (10.75 meters/35-03.25) and 800 meters (2:25.08), while junior Molly Rouillard (Dartmouth, Mass.) took the crown in the 1,000 meters (3:06.66) for the Bears, who set new MASCAC marks in both the 4 X 400 relay (4:06.78) and 4 X 800 relay (9:58.64).

Worcester State finished as the runner-up to host Southern Maine in the 2012 New England Alliance Championships, which combines competition between institutions from both the MASCAC and Little East Conference.  The Huskies posted a team score of 168 points to outdistance the Lancers’ mark of 136 points in the Alliance scoring.
