Conor Murtagh and Jayci Andrews of Bridgewater State and Alex Santos of Worcester State have earned Eastern College Athletic Conference weekly accolades as announced by the organization.
Murtagh was named the ECAC Division III New England Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week while Andrews and Santos earned ECAC DIII New England Rookie of the Week accolades in their respective sports of Women's Indoor Track and Field and Men's Basketball.
The reigning MASCAC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, Murtagh captured the meet title in the 60-meter hurdles at the Tufts Invitational with a time of 8.28 seconds in the finals. The time qualifies him for all three regional postseason meets. Murtagh, who earned All-American honors in the hurdles last season, is currently ranked fifth in all of Division III in the event.
Andrews placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a DIII New England qualifying time of 9.48 seconds at the Tufts Invitational. The freshman also ran a leg on the Bears’ first place 4x200-meter relay team which posted an ECAC qualifying time of 1:50.22. She also placed fourth in the 200-meter dash (27.42). Earlier this week she was named MASCAC Women's Indoor Rookie of the Week.
Santos registered a career-high 32 points in a 93-81 victory over Fitchburg State, breaking a Worcester State program record for three-point shots made in a single game in the process. He drained nine 3-pointers (69 percent) from behind the arc while adding two assists, two rebounds, a steal and a block in the win. This was the fourth straight time Santos earned MASCAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week honors.
