Bridgewater State's Josselyn Named NCBWA DIII Pitcher of the Week
Bridgewater State University graduate righthander Matt Josselyn has been selected as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division III Pitcher of the Week.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University graduate righthander Matt Josselyn has been selected as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division III Pitcher of the Week.
Josselyn tossed the second perfect game in BSU baseball history as the Bears opened the 2023 season with a 4-0 victory over Rivier University this past Sunday at The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Hanson, Massachusetts product retired all 21 batters he faced with an impressive 13 strikeouts. Only two balls left the infield, a fly out to center in the third and a fly out to right in the sixth.
Earlier this week, Josselyn was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Pitcher of the Week for the seventh time in his career.
In 38 career appearances with the Bears (27 starts), Josselyn has produced 14 wins, seven complete games and five shutouts with 158 strikeouts and a 3.33 ERA over 178 1/3 innings.
Last season, Josselyn was named to the ABCA/Rawlings Division III All-Region Two First Team, the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Division III All-New England Region Two Team and the All-MASCAC First Team. He finished the season sixth in all of Division III in WHIP (0.81), 13th in complete games (5), 18th in ERA (1.77), 26th in strikeout to walk ratio (6.90), and 31st in both walks per nine innings (1.26) and hits per nine innings (6.06). Josselyn fashioned together a BSU record 40 1/3 scoreless inning streak during the 2022 campaign.
The BSU baseball team is currently 4-1 on the young season. The Bears take on Penn State-Berks tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 in Myrtle Beach.
