Bridgewater State Claims Top Seed in the 2025 MASCAC Baseball Tournament

Starting off the tournament on May 8, #4 Worcester State and #5 Salem State face off at 12 pm in Bridgewater with the winner taking on the Bears at 3 pm. In the other part of the bracket, #3 Westfield State and #6 Framingham State meet up at 1 pm then the winner takes on #2 Mass. Maritime at 5 pm. On Friday, the bracket continues as double elimination with tournament culminating on Saturday with an if needed game Sunday for the MASCAC Tournament Championship and spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Earning the chance to host this week is Bridgewater State who was 17-4 during league play to win their fourth straight MASCAC Regular Season title. Scott Emerson had a banner year for the Bears, finishing in the top four of the MASCAC in several stat categories, including batting average (.400), total hits (64), doubles (9), stolen bases (19) and total bases (89). He also had two triples, 14 walks, four home runs and 23 RBI on the year.
Grabbing the other hosting duty is Mass. Maritime with the second seed. The Buccaneers were 13-8 in conference action. Brett Velzis led the MASCAC in batting average (.433), on-base percentage (.541), second in RBI (56), slugging percentage (.817), doubles (13), walks (28), total bases (98) and third in home runs (11).
Westfield State has the third seed after also finishing 13-8. Dan Burnett was a home run hitter for the Owls with 13 on the year to set a new school record while knocking in 57 runs which was also a school best. On the year, he batted .415 with 12 doubles, four triples, 20 walks, 50 runs scored, a .852 slugging and .512 on-base percentage.
Landing the fourth seed is Worcester State. The Lancers were 12-9 during MASCAC play. On the mound, Ben Smith registered a 5-2 record over 40.2 innings pitched with 62 strikeouts, a 4.20 ERA, three complete games and one shutout.
Closing out the 2025 tournament field is Salem State and Framingham State with the fifth and sixth seed. For the Vikings, Owen Duggan led the team with a .368 batting average, six doubles, a triple, a home run, 21 RBI, 39 hits, 18 runs scored and a .462 on-base percentage. For the Rams in his first year with the team, Massimo Mondi collected a .373 batting average, 56 hits, five doubles, two triples, two home runs, 20 RBI, 46 runs scored and a league-leading 19 stolen bases.
During the 2024 tournament, second seed Bridgewater State became the first program in MASCAC tournament history to win three straight championships with the victory over top seed Salem State.
