Western Connecticut State's Arndt Earns Second New England Football Writers' Association DII/DIII Gold Helmet Award

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior quarterback Will Arndt (Sandy Hook, CT) of Western Connecticut State University and running back Marquis Young of University of Massachusetts and have been awarded New England Football Writers' Association Gold Helmets, sponsored by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation after their record-setting games.
The Colonials' Will Arndt completed 30-of-41 passes with 397 yards in Western Connecticut State's, 63-42, victory over Westfield State. On senior night, Arndt broke the school record for most touchdowns in a single game with seven and his longest being 59 yards. The Sandy Hook, Connecticut native also threw five of the seven touchdowns to classmate Connor Falaguerra. Arndt broke season records of passing yards in a season with 3,012 and touchdowns in a season with 32. This is the second Gold Helmet for Arndt, as his first was awarded on Oct. 14 for completing 27-of-47 passes for 430 yards in the Colonials', 46-39, win against Mass. Maritime.
Freshman Marquis Young led all rushers for career-highs of 168 yards and 32 carries in Massachusetts', 28-17, triumph over Eastern Michigan on Saturday. The running back ran for two yards into the end zone for his third-career touchdown giving UMass an early 7-3 lead in the first quarter. Young and teammate Jamal Wilson surpassed 100 yards rushing which marked the first game Massachusetts featured two 100-yard plus rushers in the same contest since Sept. 22, 2007.
