Massachusetts Maritime's Jonathan Furtado has been recognized by the Eastern College Athletic Conference as the Division III North Football Special Teams Player of the Week.
This is the first time this season the junior wide receiver has received the accolade. Earlier in the week, he was named the MASCAC Special Teams Player of the Week as well.
In their game against UMass Dartmouth last Saturday, Furtado blocked a fourth-quarter punt that was run in for a 44-yard touchdown return, sparking a comeback from a 13-point deficit in the Buccaneers' 35-34 victory. The junior also recorded his first-career interception and made a pair of solo tackles as a defensive back, and hauled in a game-high six receptions for 57 yards (including a key 19-yard third down reception on game-winning touchdown drive) as a wide receiver, amassing 76 total all-purpose yards.
Massachusetts Maritime will face off this weekend with Framingham State on Saturday at Noon. Follow the stats and video at mascac.com.
