Salem State to Face Tufts in First Round of NCAA DIII Men's Basketball Tournament
Salem State will face Tufts in the opening round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Tournament at St. John Fisher College on Friday, March 3. Game time and ticket information will be announced later this week.

Salem, Mass. – Salem State will face Tufts in the opening round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Tournament at St. John Fisher College on Friday, March 3. Game time and ticket information will be announced later this week.
Salem State (17-10) claimed the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Tournament for the 17th time and are making their 23rd NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 2012.
Tufts (20-6), which won the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) regular season title, received an at-large berth after being upset, 81-65 by Williams in the semifinals of the NESCAC Tournament. This is the Jumbos fifth appearance in the tournament.
St. John Fisher (20-5) plays St. Lawrence (20-6) in the other first-round match-up with the winners meeting for a berth in the "Sweet 16."
This is head coach Chris Harvey's third trip to the NCAA Tournament, having reached the "Sweet 16" in 2009. The Vikings in their history have reached the "Sweet 16" four times with the 2000 team making the "Final Four".
Salem State is 21-24 all-time in the tournament while Tufts is 6-4. Salem State is 2-0 against the Jumbos in the post-season with the Vikings winning, 86-80 in 1995 and 83-63 in 1997. The two teams last met in 2015 with Tufts winning 90-77 in the opening round of the New England Classic.
