Four MASCAC Student-Athletes Earn ECAC DIII New England Weekly Honors

Four MASCAC student-athletes were recognized for their weekly performance by the Eastern College Athletic Conference with weekly awards in men's and women's outdoor track and field and women's lacrosse.
David Germain and Marcus Vieira were named DIII New England Men's Outdoor Athlete and Rookie of the Week, Jayci Andrews of Bridgewater State and Alexa Tonelli of Westfield State earned Rookie of the Week honors for women's outdoor track and field and women's lacrosse, respectively.
Germain took first in the high jump at the Wesleyan Spring Break Invitational. The senior cleared 1.93 meters (6’4”), the sixth-best mark in the nation this season.
Viera posted a trio of top three finishes at the Wesleyan Spring Break Invitational. The freshman placed first in the discus with a throw of 42.41 meters, then finished in third in the hammer (46.34m) and shot put (13.10m).
Andrews placed first in the 100-meter hurdles at the Bridgewater States Bears Invitational with a time of 15:29 seconds. The freshman also finished second in the 100m dash with a time of 12.77, and the 200-meter (25.85). The times in the 100-m hurdles and 200m dash qualified her for the ECAC Division III Championships. Andrews also ran a leg on the Bears’ first-place 4x100-meter relay team.
Tonelli totaled seven points on six goals and an assist with three caused turnovers and two ground balls in a 3-0 week for the Owls. The freshman scored the game-winning marker in a 9-8 win over Lasell College, and then netted a goal and assist in an 11-8 victory over Keene State University. Tonelli concluded her week with a hat trick in Westfield’s 14-3 win over Nichols College.
