Bridgewater State Wins Sixth Straight MASCAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Title
Bridgewater State wins their sixth straight MASCAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship on the campus of Wheaton College hosted by Westfield State on Sunday.
Bridgewater State wins their sixth straight MASCAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship on the campus of Wheaton College hosted by Westfield State on Sunday.
The Bears took home the crown with 237 points over runner-up Westfield State with 136 points. Fitchburg State was up next in third with 134 and Worcester State with 71.
Bridgewater State collected seven individual titles and a relay on the night. Matt Mooney won the 200m dash in a time of 22.52 while Joshua Cardichon grabbed the 400m dash title with a time of 51.71. Kevin McBirney, Brian Vale and Aydan Fournier all won an individual crown in the 600m, 800m and 1,000m run with a time of 1:21.49, 2:01.27 and 2:41.01, respectively. McBirney's mark broke the previous MASCAC record. Chigozie Adigwe hurdled his way to a MASCAC medal with a 60m hurdle time of 8.38. The 4x400m relay team of McBirney, Chris Beaulieu, Nicholas Grace and Sean Venator crossed the line firsst with a time of 3:28.48.
On the field side, Ryker King was the lone Bear to medal, leaping 4.00m to claim the pole vault title.
Westfield State landed in second with two individual crowns and the final two relays. Devan Cerone lept to a first place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.87m. Michael Pelletier claimed the top spot in the long jump with a jump of 6.69m.
Jordan Stallworth, Marcus Stallworth, Jace Falcone and Brandon Paquette had the fastest time in the 4x200m relay with a time of 1:33.68. In the 4x800m relay, Rowan Gottshall, Colin Mahoney, Andrew Organ and Lorcan Bergeron led the Owls to the crown with a time of 8:30.67.
Fitchburg State finished third with six individual crowns, including dominant performances by Paulino Guevara Mateo and Liam Bourassa. Guevara Mateo broke the MASCAC record in both the 3,000m run and 5,000m run with a time of 8:29.98 and 14:57.30. He went on the win a third medal in the mile run with a time of 4:20.62.
For the field events, Bourassa was a dual winner in the shot put and weight throw, tossing them 15.45m and 17.45m, respectively. Shamar Richburg jumped 13.30m in the triple jump to earn the title for the Falcons.
Worcester State rounds out the individual winners with a 60m dash title for Seth Boudreau with a time of 6.96 seconds.
The teams will next hit the track together on February 28 at the Division III New England Championships.
