WORCESTER, Mass. – On Monday (May 9) afternoon, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced the pairings for the first round of the 2016 NCAA Division III softball tournament.

Worcester State University (26-16-1) is scheduled to play the Landmark Conference Champions, Moravian Greyhounds (35-4), this upcoming weekend in Ithaca, NY. Also playing in their bracket are the Empire 8 Tournament Champions and host team, Ithaca College Bombers (32-8) and the Mount St. Mary's (NY) Knights (22-10) who were titled the Skyline Conference Tournament Champions.

 

62 teams from 16 different regions advanced to the NCAA Division III softball tournament – 43 of which were automatic qualifiers for winning their conference tournaments. 19 teams will be selected through at-large bids.

The Worcester State Lancers won their 11^th Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) regular season championship last weekend and were named MASCAC Tournament Champions on Sunday (May 8) as they swept the #2 seed Bridgewater State for their second-ever title.
