Sydney Despres of Worcester State, Kelsi Gunarathne of Framingham State and Natalie Sorrenti of Bridgewater State claim the MASCAC Softball Player, Pitcher and Rookie of the Week honors.

Despres batted .700 (14-20) with a double, two home runs, 10 runs scored and 11 RBI plus a 1.050 slugging percentage and .667 on-base percentage in a 6-0 week to earn the MASCAC regular season title and top seed in the tournament. Went 6-for-6 with a home run, four RBI and four runs scored in the doubleheader sweep of Becker College. Went 7-for-8 with five runs scored, one double, and five RBI in the doubleheader sweep of Massachusetts Maritime. Went 1-for-3 with a home run, run scored and two RBI in the 4-1 game two win over Fitchburg State.

Kelsi Gunarathne Framingham State Junior • P • N. Providence, R.I. Gunarathne went 2-0 with a 0.88 ERA, allowing just two earned runs in 16 innings of work with 11 hits and 18 strikeouts. Threw a complete game, allowing one unearned run on four hits with seven strikeouts and no walks in the 3-1 win over Salem State. Went nine innings and allowed two earned runs on seven hits with 11 strikeouts and a walk in the 3-2, extra-inning win over Fitchburg State.

Sorrenti went 2-1 in the circle with three complete games and a shutout last week. Posted a 0.70 ERA and fanned nine in 20 innings of work. Tossed a complete game, three-hit shutout with three strikeouts in a 5-0 win over Massachusetts Maritime. Allowed a run on three hits with four strikeouts in a 14-1 win at Westfield State. Gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits with a pair of strikeouts in a 2-1 setback to the Owls. |
