Framingham State Claims Number One Seed in 2023 MASCAC Softball Tournament
After winning the regular season title, Framingham State has claimed the top seed in the 2023 MASCAC Softball Tournament which begins on Wednesday, May 10 with first round action.

Up first on Wednesday, #4 Westfield State hosts #5 Fitchburg State at 3:30 pm then #3 Worcester State hosts #6 Mass. Maritime at 4 pm. The two first round winners will then move on to the quarterfinals where the winner of Worcester/Mass. Maritime will face second seed Bridgewater State on Friday at 3 pm then Westfield/Fitchburg will meet top seed Framingham State at 4 pm.
Once the quarterfinals begin, the tournament becomes double elimination with the semifinals Saturday and championship game on Sunday all at Framingham State. The champion will receive the MASCAC's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament.
The Rams finished the regular season atop the standings with a 13-1 conference record. Leading the team is the duo of Camille Desrochers and Ally Moran. Desrochers closed out the regular season with a .388 batting average, nine doubles, a triple, home run, 28 RBI and 30 runs scored. In the circle, Moran led the league in ERA (1.25) and wins (18), second in strikeouts (92), complete games (13), shutouts (2) and innings pitched (123.2).
Earning the other first round bye is second seed Bridgewater State. The Bears tied for second at 9-5 and sit in the second seed by virtue of the league's tiebreaker. Janet Jolly registered a .350 batting average along with six doubles, four triples, a home run, 23 RBI and 21 runs scored for the Bears during the regular season.
In the third spot with first round hosting duties is Worcester State. The Lancers were also tied at 9-5 to end the regular season. Bella Gasbarro had a solid first season with the Lancers, hitting .411 with 13 doubles, four triples, three home runs, 31 RBI and 21 runs scored along with a .643 slugging percentage.
Westfield State rounds out the tournament hosts with the fourth seed. The Owls also tied for second at 9-5 during the regular season. In the circle, Stephanie Scoville was in the top five of the MASCAC in several categories, including wins (11), ERA (5.28), strikeouts (79), complete games (12), shutouts (2) and innings pitched (111).
Grabbing the final two seeds in this year's tournament are Fitchburg State and Mass. Maritime with the fifth and sixth seed. The Falcons were 7-7 and Bucs had five conference victories. Molly Grass had a .333 batting average, 15 doubles, three triples, two home runs, 25 RBI, 27 runs scored and 13 walks on the season. For the Buccaneers, Ab'cd'e Patane excelled in her first year, leading the MASCAC in batting average (.532), on-base percentage (.563), slugging percentage (.928), hits (59), doubles (17), home runs (7) and RBI (49) and helped the Buccaneers to their first MASCAC Tournament appearance in school history.
During last year's MASCAC Softball Tournament, fourth seed Framingham State upset top seed Bridgewater State in back-to-back championship games to win the title and advance to the NCAA Tournament.
