Regular Season Champs Westfield State Earns the Top Seed in the 2025 Softball Tournament
After claiming their second straight MASCAC Regular Season title, Westfield State has earned the top seed in the 2025 MASCAC Softball Tournament which starts on Tuesday.
After claiming their second straight MASCAC Regular Season title, Westfield State has earned the top seed in the 2025 MASCAC Softball Tournament which starts on Tuesday.
The tournament gets underway on Tuesday with the first round single elimination contests with #3 Worcester State facing #6 MCLA at 6 pm and #4 Bridgewater State hosting #5 Salem State at 3:30 pm. The first round winners will then take on #1 Westfield State and #2 Framingham State on Thursday. The lowest remaining seed takes on the Owls at 3:30 pm while the other remaining seed faces the Rams at 4 pm. The rest of the tournament is hosted by Westfield State and continues Friday with the semifinals and Saturday with the championship that determines the MASCAC Champion and automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.
The Owls earned the top seed after finishing the regular season 11-3 in the conference. They were led by Mia Alfonso who batted .462 with 11 doubles, a league-leading six home runs, 48 total hits, 31 RBI, nine walks, 19 runs scored, .740 slugging and .504 on-base percentage on the year.
Getting the other first round bye is Framingham State who was 10-4 in league action. In her first year with the squad, Audrey Gauthier closed out the regular season first in the MASCAC with 15 wins, 139 strikeouts, 7.93 strikeouts per game and two saves. She also had a 2.91 ERA with a 1.62 WHIP and 13 complete games over 122.2 innings pitched.
Worcester State gets to host a first round game as the third seed with a 9-5 regular season mark. Emma Lanpher, last year's MASCAC Player of the Year, had a .458 batting average with 6o hits, 40 runs scored, 24 RBI, eight doubles, two triples and 11 walks this season.
With the final hosting duties is Bridgewater State with the fourth seed. The Bears closed out the year with an 8-5 MASCAC mark. Angelina Lynch batted .377 with 40 hits, 11 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 20 RBI, 29 runs scored and 13 walks.
Rounding out this year's tournament field are Salem State and MCLA with the fifth and sixth seed. Allison Frost was a thief for the Vikings this year stealing a league-leading 42 stolen bases while batting .342 with 32 runs scored, 38 hits, two doubles, eight RBI and 23 walks. For the Trailblazers, Ella Staffier hit at a .437 clip with 45 hits, eight doubles, five triples, two home runs, 27 RBI and 31 runs scored.
During the 2024 MASCAC Tournament, Framingham State defeated top seed Westfield State in two games of the championship round to win the MASCAC title and a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
