MCLA's Alexi Anderson and Massachusetts Maritime's Katie Levesque have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-New England team as announced by the organization.
This is the third time that Levesque has received the nod while Anderson is making her first appearance on the team. Earlier this season, the duo were named to the MASCAC Women's Soccer First Team All-Conference squad.
For MCLA, Anderson was a mainstay for head coach Deb Raber on the backline during the 2015 season. Anderson is the second player under Coach Raber and first since Jess Tietgens in 2009 to be selected to the All-Region team.
The senior started 15 games for the Trailblazers and was instrumental in the pair of shutouts that MCLA recorded. The versatile Anderson often moved forward later in the season and recorded one goal. The senior was known for her toughness as a defender and one who often challenged the attacker.
Levesque, a native of Wilmot, N.H. and a graduate of Kearsarge Regional High School, was tabbed to the NSCAA Third Team all-regional squad after wrapping up a record-breaking career this fall. She became the second female student-athlete in school history to earn four berths on the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference all-league team with her third straight first-team selection following the 2015 season, and she is the only soccer student-athlete (male or female) to earn all-regional recognition on three occasions. Tomorrow afternoon, Levesque will represent the Buccaneers as the first player in the program’s eight year varsity history to be selected to play in the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association Senior Bowl Game at Merrimack College, as she is the lone MASCAC representative on the Division III squad.
Levesque recorded four victories and three shutouts while making 125 saves during the 2015 campaign, as she played over 1,322 minutes of action during the year. She holds every goalkeeping record in school history after playing nearly 5,400 minutes and making 620 saves over the course of 60 career matches, including single-season marks of 175 saves and six shutouts during her sophomore season of 2013. Levesque also set the single-match record of 27 stops against Westfield State during that same fall campaign two years ago, and she led the league in saves for three of her four seasons of action.
