Westfield State won 10 overall events during the competition to post a team score of 249 points and outdistance runner-up Worcester States total of 117 points

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State College claimed its 12th straight Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship on its newly dedicated Jerry Gravel Track Saturday afternoon.
Westfield State won 10 overall events during the competition to post a team score of 249 points and outdistance runner-up Worcester State's total of 117 points. Bridgewater State (106) and Fitchburg State (48) followed in third and fourth place, respectively, while Salem State (32) and Massachusetts Maritime (1) rounded on the team scoring on the day.
Senior Marlee Berg (Chelmsford, Mass.) helped lead the way for the Owls by taking top honors in the 100 meter hurdles (15.81) and high jump (1.70 meters) while placing second in the long jump, triple jump and 400 meter hurdles. Junior Kerry Arouca (Hanson, Mass.) was also a double winner for Westfield State on the day, capturing first place and setting meet records in both the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:02.16) and 1,500 meters (4:51.26).
Senior Marianne Mealey (Foxboro, Mass.) claimed top honors in the 5,000 meters (19:00.90) for the Owls, which also receiving winning individual efforts from senior Kelsey Teal (Westford, Mass.) in the pole vault (2.67 meters), junior Jill Monahan (Southampton, Mass.) in the discus (32.24 meters) and sophomores Amanda Gricus (Marion, Mass.) and Rachel Ryan (Westboro, Mass.) in the hammer throw (43.69) and shot put (11.32 meters), respectively. Westfield State also captured the 4 X 400 relay in a time of 4:23.43.
Worcester State freshman Mara Kralian (Grafton, Mass.) was the lone three event winner of the competition, as she took top honors in both the 100 (12.63) and 200 meters (25.74) while also capturing first place in the long jump (5.09 meters). Junior Kara Antrim (Rowley, Mass.) and sophomore Andrea Ouellette (Salisbury, Mass.) were also victorious in the 800 meters (2:27.11) and triple jump (11.15 meters), respectively, for the runner-up Lancers, who also won the 4 X 100 relay in a time of 49.89.
Bridgewater State freshman Colleen Davis (Mansfield, Mass.) was a double-winner in both the 400 meters (61.14) and 400 meter hurdles (67.44) for the Bears, who also received triumphs from junior Kerri Rooke (Springfield, Mass.) in the 10,000 meters (45:25.15) and freshman Kerry Mullane (Cumberland, R.I.) in the javelin (37.40 meters).
Westfield State also captured the 2009 New England Alliance Championship that took place simultaneously during the day, as the Owls outdistanced runner-up Southern Maine and third place Rhode Island College in competition between the MASCAC and Little East Conference.
