Westfield State Claims Back-to-Back MASCAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships
For the second straight year, the Westfield State Owls are the MASCAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship which was conducted on their home track at Westfield State on Saturday.

Westfield State finished with 253 overall points while Bridgewater State came in second with 179. Worcester State was next in third with 133 points while Fitchburg State and Massachusetts Maritime were next in fourth and fifth with 65 and 10 points, respectively.
The Owls finished with MASCAC individual titles in seven events and two of the three relays. Jessie Cardin was a dual winner in the 1,500 (4:48.51) and 5,000 (18:34.35). Lexi Popp set a new MASCAC record in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.36 while Kara Penney won the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:36.50 and Kerry O'Neil in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 41:27.63.
On the field side, Sabrina Pray finished first in the long jump with a top leap of 5.14m (16' 10.50") while Jaclyn Farrell was the league champ in the triple jump with a jump of 10.95m (35' 11.25").
The Owls also claimed the 4x100 relay with Valdemira Fernandes, Popp. Kerri Long and Pray in a time of 48.66 seconds. Crossing the line first in the 4x800 relay with a time of 9:53.12, a MASCAC record, were Nicole Lanoie, Autumn Brown, Lindsey Wassung and Jessie Cardin.
Runner-up Bridgewater State grabbed six individual titles and the final relay. Tess Miller claimed two league crowns in the 200 meter dash (26.06) and 400 meter dash (58.41). Kristyn Grattan was the first MASCAC competitor to cross the line in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.84.
In the field events, Ellie Bucknell grabbed the top spot in the MASCAC with a top javelin throw of 38.93m (127' 9.00" while Molly Dewar was first in the discus throw with a top throw of 35.86m (117' 0.80"). Samantha Richner tied with Worcester State's Haley Moss for the MASCAC title in the high jump with a top clearing of 1.53m (5' 0.25").
The Bears 4x400 meter relay team of Amanda Lane, Molly McNamara, Traci Perry and Miller took home the MASCAC crown with a time of 4:06.01.
Worcester State finished with two individual champions. In the 100 meter dash, Lauren Waters was first in with a time of 12.54 and Haley Moss in the high jump with a top leap of 1.53m (5' 00.25").
Rounding out the individual winners is Fitchburg State with three. Morgan Steele took home two MASCAC honors in the hammer throw (47.01m/154' 3") and shot put (11.62m/38' 1.50"). Annie Woolley broke the MASCAC and Alliance record in the 100 meter hurdles finishing in 14.32 seconds.
Southern Maine took home the New England Alliance title on the women's side with 166.75 points while Westfield State came in second with 126.60. Bridgewater State was next in third with 92.95 points.
