MCLA and Worcester State earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic honors as announced by the organization yesterday.
MCLA earned the Team Academic Award, but also was an Honor Roll program in Division III. The honor roll designation indicates that MCLA was in the Top 25 nationally for GPA among those schools nominated. The Trailblazers finished the academic year with a team GPA of 3.61. Four Trailblazers notched 4.0 semesters this past spring and ten student athletes achieved a 3.5 or higher.
1,126 teams have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2018-2019 season. This number breaks the previous year's total of 977 to set an all-time high.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
