Senior Andrea Wasuk is having a big season with the Westfield State women's basketball team but has really stepped it up of late.
Wasuk, a 5-foot-9 forward from Lenox, was named Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the week highlighted by a 23-point, 10-rebound effort in an 80-74 victory over Bridgewater. Prior to the holiday break, Wasuk scored 25 points in 23 minutes in an easy 73-36 victory over Daniel Webster.
"(Wasuk) played really well against Bridgewater and that Player of the Week award was the first of her career and well deserved: and long overdue," coach Andrea Bertini said.
Bertini lauds Wasuk's work ethic.
"I'm not sure if she is the most talented player in our league but she is without question the hardest working player and maximizes her abilities in every game," the coach said. "She never ever gets outworked by an opponent. It hasn't happened since she's been here. And, she has really developed into a great leader."
The Owls are currently 11-3 overall and 2-0 in MASCAC play.
