Westfield State's Lyons, Fields Earn Third Team All-New England Honors

Westfield State senior designated
hitter Kevin Lyons (Braintree) and senior outfielder Jeff Fields
(Pittsfield) were selected to the 2010 Division III All-New England
third team by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association
(NEIBA).
Lyons - the 2010 MASCAC player of the year - set school season (56)
and career (114) RBI records in leading the Owls to a 30-11 mark,
the MASCAC regular season championship, an at-large berth in the
NCAA Division III Tournament, and a No., 7 ranking in New
England.
He ranked first in the MASCAC in RBI and tied for the conference
lead with eight homers and 16 doubles. Lyons ranked third in
slugging percentage (.652), seventh in batting average (.362), and
ninth in hits (50).
Fields led the Owls with a .400 batting average; he ranked third in
the MASCAC in hitting and on base percentage (.486). The Pittsfield
product ranked second in the MASCAC in hits (60), runs scored (45)
and doubles (13). Fields also possessed one of the strongest
throwing arms in New England from his right field position.
Two other MASCAC players were selected to the NEIBA All-New England
teams, both from Worcester State. Designated hitter Corey McDonald
was a first-team selection and relief pitcher Robert Hayes was a
second-team pick.
