NO. 1 WESTFIELD STATE DEFEATS NO. 4 SALEM STATE 
TO WIN MASCAC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP

WESTFIELD, MA, May 6, 2007 - No. 1 Westfield State defeated No. 4 Salem State 13-1 in the 2007 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Tournament championship game on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field. 

Salem State (20-20) fought its way to a thrilling 5-4 win in 10 innings of Sunday's first game with the host Owls to force the deciding tiebreaker.

Westfield State (20-15) then answered with an eight-run, third inning in the second game en route to its first MASCAC Tournament title and NCAA Division III Championship berth since 1984. 

The Owls will now await the announcement of brackets by the NCAA next Monday, May 14.
