WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Bridgewater State has claimed the inaugural Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Fan Play of the Week.
Bridgewater State's play beat out top plays from Framingham State, Plymouth State and Westfield State from their contests over the weekend. Framingham State had a late charge in voting Wednesday morning, but it wasn't enough to overtake Bridgewater State's lead. The Bears finished with 44 percent of the vote while the Rams were close behind with 41 percent.
The play that earned Bridgewater State MASCAC Football Fan Play of the Week occured in the team's season opener last Friday against Salve Regina. Leading the Bears comeback charge in the fourth quarter, wide receiver Michael Viola snatches a pass out of the air from quarterback Danny Higgins then scampers down the sideline before breaking away for the 91 yard touchdown. Video of the play can be seen below.
Thanks to all those who voted for the first MASCAC Football Fan Play of the Week. Make sure to check back every Tuesday during the 2014 season to see who the nominees are for Play of the Week.
