Westfield State Earns Third Seed In ECAC Division III Field Hockey Championships, Owls Host Becker Wednesday

The Westfield State College field hockey team has received an invitation to the ECAC New England Division III field hockey tournament and will host a first-round game this Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The No. 3 seed Owls will entertain Becker College at 2:00 p.m. at Alumni Field. Westfield State and Becker played during the regular season with the Owls winning 4-1 at Becker.

In other first-round matchups, No. 2 Plymouth State hosts Framingham State and No. 4 St. Joseph's of Maine hosts No. 5 Worcester State. No. 1 seed Endicott College drew a bye in the seven-team, single-elimination tournament.

The semifinals and championship games will be played at the home sites of the remaining higher seeds on Saturday, Nov. 15 and Sunday, Nov. 16.

Westfield State enters the game with a 11-7 record. The Owls lost six of their games by a goal.

Westfield State's leading scorer is freshman Jessi Gould (17 goals, 2 assists), who was named the Rookie of the Year in the 12-team Little East Conference. Gould also was an all-conference second-team selection along with senior midfielder Ali Rheaume.

Senior Vicky Winson is the second leading scorer (7-6-20), followed by Kate Moss (5-8-18), Amanda Burns (6-0-12), Kara Guittarr (5-2-12) and Alicia Gardner (2-8-12).
