Worcester State Places Sixteen Student-Athletes On NFHCA National Academic Squad

Worcester, MA --- Sixteen Worcester State field hockey student-athletes have been named to the 2008 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad. The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2008-09 academic year.

Those representing the Lancers include: seniors Kim Cosenza (Fitchburg, MA), Megan Rosborough (Uxbridge, MA), Jillian Tamburro (Marlboro, MA), juniors Veronica Farell (Baldwinville, MA), Lesley Hill (Raynham, MA), sophomores Megan Feehan (Lunenburg, MA), Amanda Maillet (Saugus, MA), Erin Moore (Brimfield, MA)and freshmen Erica Allen (Mattapoisett, MA), Andria Bacon (Brookfield, MA), Molly Cotter (N. Easton, MA), Sarah Cozzens (Lancaster, MA), Lauren Daley (Dedham, MA), Kaitlynn Delisle (Taunton, MA), Haley Erickson (Sagus, MA) and Samantha Janda (Sterling, MA)

Worcester State also was one of 121 Division III teams nationwide to be honored for the NFHCA National Academic Team Award given to programs that have higher than a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher. WSC was 24 teams regionally selected in New England and joined fellow Little East foe Southern Maine on the team.

The Lancers under the guidance of head coaches Renee LaValley and Abby Sallila ended their season at 11-10 with a 6-5 mark in the Little East Conference. The squad lost 3-0 to St. Joseph's of Maine in the first round of the ECAC New England Tournament as the team made its fifth ECAC New England Tournament appearance in the last seven years.
