Mar 13, 2009

Bridgewater State's run through March Madness came to an end on Friday evening, as the Bears dropped an 84-64 decision to SUNY-Farmingdale in sectional semi-final round action of the 2009 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championships played on the campus of Richard Stockton College in Pomona, N.J.

Senior center Roland Millien (Stoughton, Mass.) led four players in double figures with a double-double effort of 17 points and 10 rebounds in his final collegiate game for Bridgewater State, which ended the season at 22-7 overall. Sophomore Judah Jackson (Everett, Mass.) added 16 points on the night for the Bears, who also received 13 points from sophomore Nicholas Motta (Fairhaven, Mass.) and 10 points from senior Stace Garrick (West Warwick, R.I.).

Bridgewater State, which shared the MASCAC regular season crown with Salem State and upended the Vikings in the conference tournament championship contest, trailed by five (38-33) at the break and whittled that margin to three on a pair of Millien free throws in the first 12 seconds after intermission, but Farmingdale used 12 unanswered points to take a 15-point cushion (50-35) with just under 16 minutes to play, as the Bears got no closer than 11 points in the final eight minutes of action.

Bridgewater State set a school record with its 22 victories this winter under 2008-09 Co-MASCAC Coach of the Year Joe Farroba.
