Framingham, MA - The Framingham State College men's basketball team was selected to participate in the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Men's Basketball Tournament. The fifth seeded Rams travel to fourth seeded Becker College on Wednesday night, March 4th, at 7 p.m. in one quarterfinal match up.
The Rams (15-12) finished fourth in the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) and advanced to the semifinals of the MASCAC Tournament where they were defeated by top seed Salem State who earned an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Rams are led by junior forwards Josue Almodovar and Roderick Jackson. Almodovar, who was selected First Team All-MASCAC for the second season in a row, has scored over 500 points this season and has moved into 10th on the FSC All-Time scoring list. He is averaging a double double for the Rams (21.1 ppg and 10.2 rpg). Jackson, who was a second team selection, is averaging 14.2 points and 5.9 rebounds a game and leads the Rams in blocked shots. Junior guards Chad Dixon and Bill Carey are also averaging double figures for the Rams with 11.6 ppg and 10.9 ppg respectively. Carey is also shooting 39% from three point range.
Becker College (19-8), who finished second in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) and lost to Elms College in the finals of their conference tournament, are led by the NECC Player of the Year Travis Suber who is averaging 19.3 points and 4.9 rebounds a game.
Rounding out the field for the tournament are (#1) Lasell College who will host (#8) Salve Regina University, (#2) Colby-Sawyer who will host (#7) Rivier College, and (#3) Westfield State who will host (#6) Daniel Webster College on other quarterfinal action on Wednesday night.
