The Vikings (12-5-1) won the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) title over Westfield State with penalty kicks determining the winner while Amherst (11-3-2), which is the regional host site, earned an at-large bid after losing 4-3 to Hamilton in the quarterfinal round of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship.

    Keeper Chris Jimenez (Nashua, N.H.) made two key saves during penalty kicks to help Salem State claim the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Soccer Championship over Westfield State on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field. The No. 1 seed Vikings and No. 6 seed Owls battled to a 2-2 tie through double overtime, and it was Jimenez's diving stop of a shot by Kyle Mutti (Feeding Hills, Mass.) on Westfield's State's fifth attempt that ended the drama and sealed the title. Salem State claims their 18th MASCAC championship and will make their 13th appearance in the upcoming NCAA Tournament later this week, with seeding and pairings still to be determined.

  • Mass. Maritime Men's Soccer, Men's Lacrosse Team Up To Support 2017 Mito Energy Walk & 5K

    Members of both the Massachusetts Maritime men’s soccer and men’s lacrosse teams joined together on September 17th to raise monies and awareness during the 13th Annual MitoAction Energy Walk & 5K presented by Stealth BioTherapeutics that took place at DCR’s Mother’s Rest in South Boston. Nearly $82,000 was raised at the event in support of continuing research in the battle against mitochondrial disease, an inherited chronic illness that can be present at birth or develop later in life and afflicts about 1 in every 4,000 people.
