SALEM STATE'S TIM SHEA RECORDS 600TH COLLEGIATE CAREER VICTORY
SALEM, MA, Nov. 29, 2007 - Salem State women's basketball
head coach Tim Shea achieved his 600th
collegiate career coaching victory on Thursday, November 29 at
Plymouth State when the Vikings defeated the Panthers, 65-33.
Coach Shea, who is in his 27th season at Salem State, is one of just four NCAA Division III head coaches to reach the 600 career-win plateau. In addition to his outstanding winning percentage, which places him among the top ten winningest women's basketball coaches in NCAA Division III history, Coach Shea has directed the Salem State women's basketball program to a record 22 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) regular season titles and a record 16 MASCAC postseason tournament championships. Coach Shea's record against conference opponents is 318-25.
Under Coach Shea's direction, the Vikings have been selected for 23 NCAA Division III Championships and have advanced to an NCAA Final Four on four different occassions.
To date, Salem State's finest season occurred in 1985-86 when the Vikings rolled to a 29-1 record and were ranked No. 1 in the nation the entire season en route to winning the NCAA Division III national championship. Coach Shea was chosen as the National and New England Coach of the Year at the conclusion of that season.
Prior to arriving at Salem State in 1981, Coach Shea posted a
three-year record of 70-3, which included a state title, as head
girl's basketball coach at Salem High School.
