MCLA and Worcester State earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic honors as announced by the organization yesterday.
47 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) student-athletes have been recognized for their outstanding sportsmanship as members of the 2018 Fall Sportsmanship Team.
After the completion of the fall regular season, Bridgewater State has the most points in the first round of the Howard C. Smith Cup standings. The Smith Cup is awarded annually to the member institution which compiles the most points based on the placement of each of its programs competing in the 15 league championship sports.
The season came to an end for the Worcester State University volleyball team on Friday afternoon, as the Lancers suffered a hard-fought 3-1 defeat to #23 Bowdoin College in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at the Staake Gymnasium. Set scores were 23-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-17.
For the second straight year, Amari King of Worcester State has earned the 2018 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Year and headlines the All-Conference team which is voted on by the eight coaches from around the conference.

For the second consecutive year, Worcester State University is the champion of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference in women's volleyball. The top-seeded Lancers took down #3 Westfield State 3-0 on Saturday evening in the MASCAC Championship match, played at Worcester State's John P. Brissette Court. Set scores were 25-10, 25-9, 25-12.
After winning their semifinal contests on Thursday night, Westfield State and Worcester State are moving on to the MASCAC Volleyball Championship game on Saturday at 6 pm.
